Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) members raided the Daemi family home in Tehran on Saturday and arrested activist Ms. Atena Daemi, reports indicate. A number of the IRGC members began beating Atena before the eyes of her terrified family members. IRGC intelligence agents taking part in this raid continuously threatened her and yelled, “You are finished. We are taking you away and you will never return.”
Atena Daemi, 29, was arrested previously on October 21st, 2014, and placed under interrogation in solitary confinement of ward 2A of Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison for 86 consecutive days. She was transferred to Evin’s women ward on January 18th, 2015 after finalizing her interrogations process.
After her court hearings were delayed on numerous occasions, she was finally brought to court on March 14th, 2015 at a hearing chaired by the so-called judge Moghise of Tehran’s branch 28 court. She was represented by a lawyer while prosecuted alongside other suspects of this case, including Omid Alishenas, Asu Rostami and Ali Nouri.
She was sentenced to 14 years behind bars on charges of “propaganda against the establishment and collusion against national security, insulting the leader, insulting the Islamic republic founder and concealment of evidence.”
Prior to this on February 16th an appeals court judge granted her release under bail after spending 16 months behind bars.
Branch 36 of the Tehran Province Appeals Court had decreased her sentence to 7 years behind bars.
